The board members are definitely asking a lot more questions than they used to. They don’t seem to be rubber stamping every proposal from the administration. The meeting lasted so long — when I gave up watching, it was past 10:00 p.m.

Mr. Perrone seems to be on top of things (although I always wonder how much we don’t know). He said the state is placing DCSS on some sort of 2 to 3 year plan to repay the deficit and to get back in the black. Mr Perrone didn’t give many details; he wasn’t clear about how much involvement the state will have.

This is what one member of the Coalition of Dekalb IEP Parents had to say.

The meeting was extremely long. The bus drivers stood in solidarity while fellow bus driver addressed the board. It will be quite interesting to see how the bus issue works out (although I don’t know where the money is going to come from to give them more money, and ALL classified staff deserve a cost of living adjustment). It’s quite entertaining to hear the public comments speakers try to race against that big timer displayed. Dr. Walker was his usual arrogant self. Dr. A seemed a bit upset that the board would not approver her hiring report (not sure if thats the correct name for the document). O’ how I missed Sara! She wasnt there last night, I hope she is ok. Jester asked a bazillion questions, some over and over. Elder (sp?) had her game face on but wasn’t effective. Mr. Perrone was honest and said yes we do use regular ol’ Excel….Jester asked that, she said her voters wanted to know this information (a blog convo earlier:) I gave up after 10:00 and the hubster wanted to go to bed listening to Monday Night Football not Dr. Walker’s amens!

  4. BTW — if anyone wants to watch the State of the System address to the DeKalb Chamber, you can view it online: (fast forward to 14:45 to get to the start of the BOE section of the meeting with Dr Walker’s intro of Dr Atkinson)

Just saw that 11 Alive will be reporting on the “Dekalb schools investigation” this morning. It was on the 6 am broadcast. If anyone sees this can you post a recap? I’m assuming it’s nothing new but I am encouraged we are getting press.
