As we approach the holidays, and in light of the recent tragedy at Newtown, we invite you all to huddle at home, hug your children and enjoy every precious minute of this break.
Meanwhile — whether you are for commonsense gun regulation or increased and easily accessible mental health services or both! — go to this Facebook page, click on “Like” and take the Newtown New Years Pledge:

Beginning January 1, 2013, let your elected representatives know: assault weapons are not used for hunting — except for people hunting and killing other people — and assault weapons do NOT belong in the hands and homes of civilians.
UPDATE. Here’s why it is important that you go to this Facebook page, “Like” it and take action: Georgia’s Superintendent of Schools, John Barge, actually agreed that armed guards should be posted in all of Georgia’s schools. Keep in mind that educators from around the country are coming out against this hare-brained NRA proposal. There were armed guards at Columbine High School, but they shot at — and missed — the murderers. When President Reagan was shot he was surrounded by highly trained Secret Service — the best of the best — and they could not prevent that shooting.
We will take a hiatus from reporting over the holidays and resume our blog posts after the first of January.
May you and yours enjoy healthy, happy, blessed holidays.

Thanks for your post. The children, parents and teachers of Newtown are in our prayers….
It looks like SACS reads DSW2…. from today’s AJC:
“The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools alerted reporters Sunday night to attend a news conference Monday at the agency headquarters in Alpharetta.”
