BREAKING NEWS! Judge Declines Restraining Order

Per Ty Tagami in the AJC:

“The state hearing that could unseat the nine members of the DeKalb County school board should proceed as scheduled Thursday morning, according to a judge’s order.

“Fulton County Superior Court Judge Kelly Amanda Lee on Wednesday declined DeKalb’s request for a temporary restraining order that would have halted the proceedings.”

Tune in TOMORROW MORNING AT 8 AM and watch the meeting streamed live! Follow the reposted info below and leave your comments in the discussion:

State Rep Scott Holcomb took responsibility — without being asked — to make sure that the upcoming second hearing, scheduled for 8 AM, Thursday, February 21, 2013, would also be streamed live on the Department of Education website. Thank you, Scott!

See you at 8!

Walker 2.0 code name Melvin Johnson

    To: Constituency Technical Support
From: Marshall Orson and Jim McMahan

We are writing to you regarding our chairman upgrade from Walker 1.0 to Walker 2.0, also known as Melvin Johnson. We were not aware that Walker 2.0 was just a utilities program and “The Walker 5″ was an operating system designed to run all other applications. The upgrade from Walker 1.0 to Walker 2.0 provided a number of new features which I am not happy with.

For example, Walker 2.0 has a Friends and Family subroutine that I can’t turn off. These subroutines are constantly spawning off new Lawyer and Consultant routines that are consuming all of our cache.

A number of other programs behave erratically since the installation of “The Walker 5″. Budgeting 3.1 and Education 6.0 no longer run, crashing the system whenever selected. Teacher 1.0, Student 1.0 and all learning applications can not run due to lack of system resources.

Please let me know how to uninstall or deactivate Walker 2.0 before all MS-Money files are deleted, or at least how to regain functionality in some of my other applications.

  6. bettyandveronica1 says:

I had to download their player from the state doe website, no probem. type in live webcast from their search bar and should come up with that page.

  7. John says:

On the witness list presented to the State BOE by the Dekalb BOE attorneys, Nancy Jester is not on it. That seems odd to me.

  8. john says:

dekalbinsideout, your post is hilarious (and on point) !!!!!!

  9. Did anyone else lose the feed?

  10. Undercover Reformer says:

Did anyone else’s live feed just die?

  11. Concerned says:

The site appears to be overloaded.

  14. Terry says:

Connection is on again/ off again… must be overloaded server?? Needed to quit yelling at my monitor anyway… and… OMG.. ramona got bigger

  15. PI says:

We were using Chrome, but when that kept failing we tried Opera and Internet Explorer but with no results. Now we can’t even load the GADOE site anymore.

  16. bettyandveronica1 says:

    Back uo

  17. StunnedParent says:

I had the feed this morning at 8am too and I lost it abpout 30 mins ago. And yes, I have real player installed. I can’t even access the State Board’s website anymore. 😦

  18. StunnedParent says:

Ok, got it back. What a circus!

  19. bettyandveronica1 says:

    Wilson, what a….

  20. We still cannot get it back. Called the Help Desk. no answer. We left a message. Called Matt Cardoza’s office. Got a “helpful” person named Dorie who said to re-start my computer because the feed was working for other people. I had already done that. She had no other suggestions. And she said that all of the Help Desk folks are at the hearing itself. How is it not possible for the SBOE and the GaDOE to NOT plan for a greater-than-usual demand? The blind leading the blind.

  21. bettyandveronica1 says:

Dsw try entering live webcast on their site and downloading real player again.

  22. bettyandveronica1 says:

Wilson making a big deal abt work product of interviews and who possesses the notes

  23. DeKalb Inside Out says:

Browse to the DOE website using Internet Explorer

Firefox doesn’t work for me. Internet Explorer comes right up. Make sure Real Player is installed.

  24. Parent Teacher Conference says:

So, the Board’s strategy is “scorched earth / take no prisoners”. Sue the government that will decide your fate (the failed TRO suit). Disrespect the Board that will recommend your fate (showing up an hour late to the hearing). Assault the man (on the witness stand) that will decide your accreditation (Elgart / SACS). Burn every bridge. Destroy every relationship. Do as much damage to as many as possible. That’s the strategy! That’s the way forward! That’s the way . . . to save their own jobs rather than take responsibility for their conduct and clean up the mess they’ve made of our children’s schools. The arrogance of the DeKalb County School System Board of Education is breathtaking. They should be removed from office before sundown.

  25. PI says:

We finally got it back up, but it took a long time. They will start again at 10:30, so try resetting or restarting everything.

  26. bettyandveronica1 says:

DCSD board huddle with Thurmond and Wilson. Anyone see walker and woods on the news last night? Woods ” It’s not about our jobs, it’s about the cheeldren, were concerned about disrupting them.” Hah!

  27. DeKalb Inside Out says:

DeKalb Board Candidate Pool – 2014
Obviously most of the board sucks, but what can we expect from the candidate pool next year? From DSW to Mike Jacobs, the board is getting raked over the coals 24/7 and collateral damage be damned. The board members make $18k and there is a call for board members to pay for their own lawyers.

Sooooo … who’s going to take this job next year?

  28. bettyandveronica1 says:

Now we’re getting some where, it’s. all about the money, money, money.

  29. The DCSS BOE well-deserves being “raked over the coals” 24/7. If they were doing the right thing they would have nothing to worry about. The current BOE members who voted to save their jobs by suing the state are concerned only with their own power and maintaining the status quo of the bloated palace full of unqualified, incompetent and/or unnecessary friends-and-family. The current board members who voted to sue the state MUST pay for their own lawyers.

  30. DSW just lost sound; video is frozen. AGAIN!

  31. plusone says:

So frustrating to not be able to watch.

  32. DCSD FOR DUMMIES says:

SCW, physically I’ll???Really? She isn’t even in the room.

  33. PI says:

SCW will ensure their demise before any of the other evidence. Another sign of incompetence by our board members.

  34. So they’ve found Sarah after taking a break to look for her – and she’s sworn in and testifying.

  35. StunnedParent says:

Lie after lie after lie. We deserve answers Sarah CW! Speak truthfully. I have a 3 yr old destined for this school system. You all need to clean up your act or get the heck out!

  36. Well, she’s too unstable to stand – they have to get her a chair to sit in while testifying. She apologized for being late the first time. She wasn’t feeling well. But “I’m here, now”…

Asked to identify document showing ethics policy. Did you say you didn’t want to sign the oath of ethics? No. I said I wasn’t going to, but I did sign it.

Have you ever been reprimanded? Yes.
In 2010 due to remarks against school employees and board members? Yes
Do you believe anyone else should have been reprimanded? Can’t say. No opinion. Never saw anything that should have been reprimanded.
Did you ask the board to reprimand a member and get voted down? Yes.
    Remember who? Yes.
    Share that with us.
Do I need to say the name?
    Is it a current member?
    [lots of ‘discussion’]
Asks again. Anyone subject to reprimand in Open Meetings?
So the matter you asked reprimanded was in Exec Session right? Yes.
Can’t remember [puts her head in her hands] May have been months ago.
But you mentioned it in Open Session right?
No that was no I don’t recall mentioning it in Open Session.
So, even though you testified that you mentioned it in OS, your recollection has changed and it was only Executive Session.
Did board take official action? I mean in a public meeting.
[Board lawyer] I object to discussing anything that wasn’t discussed in Open Session.

  37. Exhibit 14 page 4 section C
Code of Ethics policy. You were on the board when you voted on it.
    3-21-2012 revised
    Read first para please.
At first meeting, publicly swear or affirm to comply with board ethics as set in policy… etc.
At least 14 meetings since calendar year 2013 right?
Yes, a lot of them are special meetings.
Can you explain why hasn’t board sworn to ethics policy until end of Feb?
    So board ignored this policy.
I wouldn’t say that I just think other things took up our time.
You were on the board when Crawford Lewis was selected. Under what circumstances did he leave his post?
I”m not sure, but I think it was a legal issue?
Did it have to do with school dollars?
That answer would be better from the attorney.

  38. How about Pat Reid? Who was she?
She was the Chief Operations Officer.
She was indicted for misuse of school dollars on construction dollars – fair statement?
    Fair statement.
Supt Lewis was caught up – fair statement?
    Who was next super?
Internal (meant interim) super Ramona Tyson.
    Then who?
    Cheryl Atkinson.
There was an extensive search right? Three top candidates right?
Atkinson was one of top three?
What happened to the other top candidates?
    They were not selected?
Isn’t it true that they dropped out after info was leaked to the media?
[Lawyer – no proof info was leaked – how is this relevant?]
