TEACHERS: If You Live In DeKalb, Here’s Your Chance To Be Heard!

Once you step up to the voting machine, it’s just between you and your conscience.

Remember how you — an experienced, well-educated professional — have been treated as the lowest of the low by the Palace administrators and the superintendent. And it all has been made possible by by the current school board. They could have stepped up and done what was right, but they chose not to. Shockingly, most of them are running for election.

Don’t let them back in.

Remember … instead of reducing the bloated, overpaid-and-under-talented Palace administrators, the school board chose to balance the budget on the backs of our teachers. The school board furloughed you. The school board did not even give COLA (cost-of-living-adjustment) raises much less earned STEP raises. The school board increased class sizes considerably — sometimes there weren’t even enough seats in your classrooms. The school board made excuses for not providing textbooks, technology and other learning materials. Students suffered. For many DeKalb students, a quality education is the only escape path they have from a life of poverty and unrealized dreams. The school board made you sign contracts for next year, under threat of retaliation if you did not sign — contracts that did not even state the number of work days and your actual salary. The school board took away your Social Security replacement retirement.

It all becomes clearer when you realize that DeKalb County Schools is a $billion dollar jobs and patronage enterprise for friends-and-family. But that doesn’t make it okay.

You have a calling. You are there to educate students. And you are forced to work under the worst possible conditions — unless, of course, you are part of the friends-and-family in-crowd.

Today’s election (May 20, 2014; 7 AM – 7 PM) gives you the chance to speak your mind and wipe the slate clean — with no retaliation. Use your vote responsibly. Do NOT vote for any of the incumbents. None of them deserve your vote; none of them have earned your vote.

This truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Make your vote count. Don’t let the current “incumbent” school board members back in!

Once you step up to the voting machine, it’s just between you and your conscience.
